Go at Your Own Pace: A Message for Coding Beginners

When I started learning to code, I thought I was in a race.

I saw people completing 100 Days of Code, building amazing projects in a week, and jumping into JavaScript before I could finish learning HTML. While scrolling through social media, it felt like everyone was miles ahead—and I was crawling.

The comparisons hit hardest when I was revising HTML and CSS.
I remember thinking, “Why am I still here? I haven’t even started JavaScript yet.”
That moment made me question my pace, my effort, even my ability to keep up.

But then I paused.

I asked myself: Why am I comparing my beginning to someone else’s middle?

Everyone learns differently. Maybe they started early. Maybe they had more time. Maybe they’re just showing their highlights online.
I have no idea what circumstances they went through to get there—and that’s okay. Because their journey isn’t mine.

What Helped Me

That day, I reminded myself to slow down—on purpose.
To stop letting speed define success.
To find comfort in revision instead of shame.

Learning to code isn’t about how fast you reach JavaScript or how quickly you deploy a project. It’s about understanding what you’re doing. Feeling confident. Building a foundation that actually lasts.

And for me, that means revisiting HTML and CSS as many times as I need.
It means learning at my own pace—even if that pace feels “slow.”

💬 If You’re Feeling Behind Too…

Please know this:
Your journey is valid.
Your pace is valid.
Your effort is enough.

Don’t compare your progress to someone else’s timeline.
You don’t know what it took for them to get there—and you don’t need to.
Comparison won’t help you grow. But patience will. Kindness will. Consistency will.

So whether you’re revisiting basics or debugging your first line of code—be proud.
You’re still moving forward. And that’s all that matters.
