My Quiet Companion

What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use daily?

I use this blanket every day.

At first, it was just something practical — a way to stay warm during late-night study sessions. I didn’t think much of it back then. It was just another thing I packed for college. But somewhere along the way, it became more than that.

It’s been with me through a lot — the endless exam preparations, sleepy hostel mornings, the late-night gossips with roommates, and those quiet nights when the weight of everything felt just a little too much. On nights when I felt overwhelmed or alone, this blanket became a quiet source of comfort — soft, warm, familiar.

It has seen me laugh until I couldn’t breathe, and cry when no one was watching. It’s been a silent companion through victories and breakdowns, through dreams spoken aloud and worries kept inside. With time, it became part of my routine, a small constant in a life that keeps changing.

Now, it’s a little worn out — the corners frayed, the fabric not as thick as before. But it still brings the same warmth. It still feels like home.

And on the rare nights I don’t have it with me — maybe I’m traveling or staying somewhere else — I notice its absence. Not just physically, but emotionally. Like something’s missing. Like I’ve left a piece of my comfort behind.

It’s funny how something so small can become so important. A blanket, yes — but also a reminder that in the chaos of everyday life, it’s okay to hold on to the things that make us feel safe.

We all need a little comfort.
And sometimes, it looks like an old, cozy blanket that’s been with you through it all.
